Since I do not have access to my old photo albums at the moment I had to resort to finding an old piece of mine floating around on the internet. I came across the above piece and immediately knew I wanted to rework it. The piece was painted on Staten Island in 1994. At that time I had two years of piecing under my belt and had a vague idea of the process involved. I hung around more with bombers who weren't really into working on shit that took more then 5 minutes, so it was hard for me at the time to find opportunities to go out and piece.

I like that the '94 piece was done in stock caps and Rusto, so when I went out to do the revamped version I chose to also use stock caps for outlining and highlights. When I was coming up in Staten Island I had a sick love affair with Krylon's True Blue, so in the revamped version I chose that color as a sort of nod to that period. I decided to 86' that blob character for the "I" because I felt that it looked more like "ROME" then "RIME".

When painting the revamped version I tried to add more flow into the base letters and give a bit more thought to where and how I place the connections. My choice of colors and design are meant to look slightlty similar to the original '94 piece and reference the NYC styling of that era. It was a bit challenging painting over the different layers of wall and onto the roll down gate, but otherwise I am happy with the final result. If anything I would of made the lowercase "E" a little smaller because it seems so large compared to the "R". But it's all good man!
